Richmond for Earth Day 2016 [ARTICLE]

Richmond, VA – 04/22/2016 – Saving the environment lies on every shoulder, from government and corporations, to households and schools. Now, what will you do for Earth Day this year?

Richmond has been active in several environmental projects for many years, and continues to work daily on getting more residents involved with the mission to keep Richmond green and beautiful – a mission that the CVWMA, the City of Richmond Public Works, TFC Recycling, and EnviroPerks work on together.

To get a direct feel of the City’s green fever, EnviroPerks, the recycling incentive and outreach program, went to Carytown on Wednesday to see what Richmond residents think of Earth Day and how they celebrate it. From “I don’t recycle, but I know I should” to “For me it’s Earth Day everyday”, most of those interviewed showed a strong knowledge and awareness of the environmental situation and the existence of Earth Day.

To celebrate Earth Day, several people pledged to be greener, and realized again how important it is to spread the word and awareness of the importance to protect our world. “There is only one planet, we need to take good care of it”, states an interviewee on the Earth Day video.

Two EnviroPerks Rewards Partners (businesses offering discounts for recyclers) also dropped by while we were filming the Earth Day street video. Sacred Waters Holistic Spa and Boutique and Fruit Fixed shared with us how they help greening Richmond on a daily basis by incentivizing recyclers for their good work, while they also adopt a green lifestyle in their stores.

On the CVWMA website (http://cvwma.com/education-and-outreach/), you can find several events in the Richmond area. Among them, is the Richmond Earth Day, at Great Shiplock Park in Shockoe Bottom, on Saturday April 23rd from 11 am to 5 pm, and the RVA Earth Day, in Manchester, on April 23rd from 12 to 7 pm. Follow the local recycling information on the EnviroPerks Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/RecyclingPerks/
